BBC Worldwide Takes Music Doc About Avicii

LONDON: BBC Worldwide has acquired the music documentary Stories, from Grammy-nominated producer, songwriter and artist Avicii (a.k.a. Tim Bergling).

Avicii will attend MIPTV next month to launch the hour-long film. Stories tells of the artist’s experiences since the release of this debut album, True, in 2013. It follows the release of Avicii’s follow-up LP, which features 14 new original tracks, including the single “Waiting For Love.” The film chronicles Avicii’s early years posting tracks online, through to his global success. It is directed by Levan Tsikurishvili (Avicii on Tour).

Stories is an OPA People production in cooperation with Sveriges Television. BBC Worldwide is the international distributor for the documentary with world rights for TV (excluding Sweden) and VOD.

Salim Mukaddam, the director of music at BBC Worldwide, said, “Avicii redefined the boundaries of contemporary dance music with his debut album. His hits have gone gold and platinum in 25 countries, but little is known about the man behind the music. This film promises to give fans and music lovers an insight into the unbelievable world of a superstar artist, from the highs of playing to packed stadiums around the world to the lows of illness and struggling to get back to the stage. We are very excited to see the finished project later this year.”

Daniel Zackrisson, executive producer at Sveriges Television, added, “We are extremely excited to work with one of Sweden’s biggest music exports, and the documentary will be something special in the world of music documentaries. The very unique footage will give an extraordinary look into Tim’s world as the artist Avicii. The very talented director, Levan, is spending an enormous amount of time with Tim, and the access to the normally so anonymous artist is giving a rare insight into the life of a superstar.’’
