LONDON: BBC Two has commissioned documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux to produce a new film about Jimmy Savile, the popular British presenter revealed to have been a predatory sex offender only after his death.

The new production will be a follow-up to Theroux’s 1999 documentary When Louis Met Jimmy, in which the director sought to show a different side of Savile. In the latest film, Theroux will set out to talk to the people who worked closely with Savile, as well as some of his victims, friends and family.

BBC In-House Documentaries will produce the title.

Kim Shillinglaw, the controller of BBC Two and BBC Four, said: “BBC Two should be part of the national conversation, and this challenging subject matter is the kind I want to see on the channel. Louis Theroux is one of the country’s most talented filmmakers, and I am very pleased that he is revisiting this important—and deeply personal—subject for us, asking difficult questions about the life of Jimmy Savile and those around him and exploring the impact his crimes had on his victims.”
