Autentic Extends Partnership with NHK

CANNES: German production company Autentic is extending its co-production collaboration with Japanese public broadcaster NHK.

Under the agreement, Autentic co-produces content with NHK and as its European partner, the prodco co-develops, locates broadcasters and adapts projects for the European market. Autentic Distribution then markets the programs throughout Europe. The next co-pro from the pact is Inside the Tsunami, about the devastating Japanese tsunami that struck in 2011. The documentary is slated for delivery in May.

The first successful projects to come out of the partnership between Autentic and NHK are Human Body (a.k.a. Human Life) and 88 Hours—The Fukushima Meltdown.

“We are extremely proud of this partnership,” said Patrick Hörl, Autentic’s managing director. “Science productions from NHK enjoy a unique position worldwide. Outstanding and cutting-edge CGI, as well as incredibly thorough research, make these shows so special. With this commitment Autentic Distribution is further expanding its position as a source of high-quality documentary films.”

Naoya Kato, the head of NHK’s global content development department, added: “These programs have significant messages we have to share with the viewers around the world. Through the cooperation from Autentic and the German broadcasters, we are happy to be able to [spread] these messages to a broader and diverse audience. The expansion of creative cooperation with partners who share the same mission to tackle issues through documentaries is such a wonderful experience.”
