America’s Lost Vikings Premiering on Science Channel

Science Channel is set to premiere America’s Lost Vikings, a new six-part documentary series that seeks to find out more about Norsemen in the New World.

Featuring archaeologists and explorers Blue Nelson and Mike Arbuthnot as hosts, the series will look to answer questions about Viking exploration in America. The pair will use a combination of state-of-the-art science and hands-on experimental archaeology throughout their adventure. They’ll begin their mission on Canada’s northeast coast in L’Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland. America’s Lost Vikings will debut on Science Channel on Sunday, February 10, at 10 p.m.

America’s Lost Vikings is produced by Arrow Media for Science Channel. Tom Brisley and Ash Potterton are executive producers for Arrow, while Neil Laird is executive producer for Science Channel.

Arrow Media’s Potterton said: “This was a hugely challenging research project because there was so little evidence available. But in Blue Nelson and Mike Arbuthnot we had two presenters who were prepared to eat, sleep, sail, hunt and fight like Vikings in the quest for answers. Just like them, we were determined to shed new light on what is one of the greatest unanswered questions in U.S. history and bring to Science Channel a standout series with mass appeal.”

Brisley, creative director for Arrow Media, added: “This is our first large-scale commission for Science Channel and we are delighted to be growing our relationship with such a high-profile series.”

Marc Etkind, Science Channel general manager, commented: “The question of just how much of North America the Vikings explored hasn’t been investigated to this degree. The latest scientific technology may help us answer just how far they got, where they went and who they encountered.”
