BBC Worldwide & WDR Team for Blue-Chip Series Ocean

CANNES: The German public service broadcaster WDR will be a co-production partner with BBC Worldwide on the BBC Natural History Unit’s blue-chip series Ocean.

The 7×50-minute series is due to be delivered in 2017. The series makes use of new gyro-stabilized aerial camera systems, remotely operated submarines, 4K digital resolution and new marine tracking techniques to capture the wonders of the world’s largest living space.

Tobi de Graaff, the executive VP for Western Europe at BBC Worldwide, said: “Ocean is on course to become another amazing series from the BBC’s Natural History Unit and WDR’s commitment helps make ambitious projects like this happen to the benefit of audiences all over the world.”

Gabriele Conze, the commissioning editor for WDR, commented: “The landmark series Ocean perfectly fits into our wildlife-slot ‘Adventure Earth’ with its long tradition of marine programming. Oceanic sciences have made great strides in the last decade so we can expect many new discoveries, species and behaviors, filmed in a new way.
