Turner Launching Adventure Time Digital Extensions

LONDON/SEOUL: Turner is releasing a pair of mobile games based on the popular Cartoon Network animated series Adventure Time in Europe and Asia.

Launching in the U.K. and Nordics is I See Ooo, a virtual-reality mobile game and Jake the Dog-branded viewer. The experience, developed by Opposable, includes the games Glider Flight and Snowball Fight, plus a third game, Puzzle Path, which will be made available as a free downloadable content pack. Each game offers 20 levels with 14 characters and original music from the show.

I See Ooo will launch at Forbidden Planet and pyramidshop.com on September 29. The mobile game will also be offered on Google Play.

Patricia Hidalgo, the chief content officer for kids at Turner EMEA and international kids’ strategy, said: “At Turner we are committed to creating and developing the best content for audiences and ensuring that our viewers are able to experience our brands across multiple platforms, windows and devices. This comprehensive, immersive new VR experience for Adventure Time is an excellent example of how we are continually looking to innovate and offer fans new ways to interact with their favorite shows and characters—and on a deeper level than ever before.”

Johanne Broadfield, the VP of Cartoon Network Enterprises for Turner EMEA, added: “I can’t think of a more perfect show to highlight this exciting new technology than the quirky and unpredictable Adventure Time. Its licensing potential and social currency gives us so much scope when creating new ways for fans to play and interact with the brand—and in this instance, we have an amazing, one-of-a-kind offering that not only allows kids to try out virtual-reality gaming but also gives them the chance to become Jake the Dog with a fully customized VR viewer.”

Meanwhile, Turner Asia Pacific is releasing a new app called Adventure Time Run: The Ooo Expedition, created by Tangent. The run-style game focuses on the main characters Finn and Jake, as well as Princess Bubblegum, Marceline the Vampire Queen and BMO, who all live in the Land of Ooo. The first launch takes place today in Korea, where the game is available for download on iOS and Android mobile devices. A regional rollout across Asia will kick off later this year, with launches in select international markets slated for 2017.

Ron Lee, the general manager of Turner Korea, commented: “This game is the first of [its] kind. Korea’s gaming industry is hungry for new IP that can provide a global competitive edge, and Turner and Cartoon Network IPs already have a track record of popularity internationally.

“Turner will be looking to secure further business with Korea’s talented pool of game developers and partners. And through partnerships such as the one with Tangent, we will be actively growing our digital offerings in this market.”

Tangent CEO Ben Byung-Eui Yoo noted: “We expect Adventure Time Run: The Ooo Expedition to garner a lot of interest from gaming fans in Korea. Adventure Time is a series with a solid base of fans both overseas and within Korea, and its diverse and unique world is a great environment for the project.

“As it is a game with a globally popular IP, we are confident that the game will find success not only in Korea but also in the global market.”
