Sycamore Studios Acquires Rights to Madeline

Sycamore Studios has acquired the animation rights to Ludwig Bemelmans’ beloved children’s book series Madeline.

In close collaboration with the Bemelmans family, Sycamore will expand Madeline across film, TV and licensing. Sycamore has already begun early development on an animated musical feature.

The Madeline books, which first began publishing in 1939, center on a fearless girl in a Parisian boarding school.

Madeline was previously adapted for the screen by DIC Entertainment as an HBO special in 1988 and an animated series from 1993 to 2001. A theatrical film from TriStar Pictures released in 1998.

Sycamore Studios was founded in 2024 by Christian McGuigan and Timothy Reckart. Its slate includes an adaptation of Doctor Dolittle and Zita the Spacegirl.
