Spain’s RTVE Goes for Octonauts

LONDON: The animated children’s show Octonauts has been picked up by the Spanish national broadcaster RTVE for the kids’ network Clan.

Produced by Silvergate Media, the preschool title will see a publishing launch later this year following a deal between Spanish agent Ypsilon and Editorial Planeta. Ypsilon has also negotiated merchandising rights for the property, with products set to be introduced in spring 2017. The lineup will include Fisher-Price play sets and vehicles at Spanish retailers, along with back-to-school merchandise from Montichelvo and Joumma Bags.

Now in its fourth season, Octonauts is broadcast in more than 100 countries across the world, including on Disney Channel (U.S.), CBeebies (U.K.), ABC (Australia), TF1 (France), Super RTL (Germany) and China Central TV. Disney Junior in Spain and Portugal acquired the show last summer.

Ron Allen, the senior VP of commercial at Silvergate, said: “We’re delighted to partner with our friends at Clan. Spain is an important market for us and we’re thrilled to have another strong broadcast platform for Octonauts. We’re already seeing a strong response to the show with audience numbers building quickly. We have a fantastic team of broadcast, agent and licensing partners in place to make 2017 a big success and we look forward to announcing more key partnerships for Octonauts products.”
