SINGAPORE: August Media Holdings has secured a licensing agreement with Epigram Books to adapt the kids’ book series Sherlock Sam for film and television.

The book series was written by Singaporean husband-wife team Adan Jimenez and Felicia Low-Jimenez under the pseudonym A. J. Low. The books feature Samuel Tan Cher Lock, Singapore’s greatest kid detective and his trusty robot. The stories explore locations in Singapore and around the world.

The books, originally published by Singapore publisher Epigram Books, were also picked up in the U.S. by Andrew McMeels Publishing. The first two titles were released in the U.S. in August 2016.

Founder and CEO of August Media Holdings Jyotirmoy Saha said, “Lately our titles targeted at Southeast Asian audiences have met with huge success. In that effort we had been eyeing Sherlock Sam for a long time. The book series uniquely captures the quirks and the spirit of multi-racial Singapore and Southeast Asia. It’s exciting to start work on this homegrown property and make it travel even more than it already has.”

Sherlock Sam is almost folklore to the kids of Singapore,” added Edward Wee, the publisher and CEO of Epigram Books. “We are delighted that we are going to be able to tell the stories through a visual medium too. The association with August Media would be perfect for this given their track record in adaptations.”
