The episodes, which will center on Peppa and her friends and family celebrating Chinese New Year, will be broadcast to viewers across multiple markets. They will begin airing on Tuesday, February 5, in the U.K. Select markets will air the specials in Mandarin.

Nickelodeon’s global network, including the U.S., is partnering with free-to-air broadcasters in multiple markets to air the Peppa Pig Chinese New Year specials, including ABC in Australia, TVNZ in New Zealand, Channel 5 Milkshake in the U.K., RAI in Italy, France TV in France, Clan in Spain, Treehouse in Canada and ETV in South Africa. It will air in the local language on YoYo in Taiwan and nowTV in Hong Kong. VOD platforms will also air according to their planned schedules.

eOne’s strategy to celebrate Chinese New Year “Year of the Pig” with Peppa Pig throughout 2019 also includes a cinema release of the Alibaba Pictures-produced Peppa Celebrates Chinese New Year in China on February 5. Exclusive Chinese New Year merchandise also will be available, including the first Panda Twin toys. Further, eOne is teaming up with Tmall on retail activations that will be supported by a marketing campaign and a cross partnership with Merlin Entertainments’ new Peppa Pig World of Play indoor attraction in Shanghai.

“We’re excited to unveil our latest plans to celebrate Chinese New Year with Peppa Pig fans around the world, thanks to a ground-breaking campaign we are rolling out with our broadcast partners around the globe,” said Monica Candiani, eOne’s executive VP of content sales Family & Brands.

Olivier Dumont, president of eOne Family & Brands, added: “Airing Peppa Pig in Mandarin across our global broadcast platform will be a company first. As one of the fastest growing languages in the world, we hope the special broadcast will appeal to both native speakers and children wanting to get a first taste of Mandarin as a second language and we look forward to inspiring more children to learn about this rich language and culture.”
