NEW YORK/AMSTERDAM: Nickelodeon has commissioned the new series The Ludwigs, which will have an English-language global version and a local Dutch-language production.

Produced by Blooming Media, the series follows the adventures of five foster children who are on a quest to find out what happened to their foster parents. The Dutch-language De Ludwigs will broadcast on Nickelodeon in the Netherlands in spring 2016, while the English-language The Ludwigs will air on Nick channels globally in the second half of the year. Both productions will be filmed and produced in Amsterdam and will share the same scripts and sets.

“We create content that kids everywhere love, so it is only fitting that we are now producing and developing content on every continent where they live,” said Russell Hicks, the president of content development and production at the Nickelodeon Group. “Expanding productions to other parts of the world allows us to tap into new talent and creative opportunities in every corner of the globe. These new productions are a great example of how the alignment of our development teams into one global unit has allowed us to create a diverse slate of content to satisfy any creative need in the ever-changing landscape.”

“We have been able to increase content production on a local and global level using what we are calling a 'simultaneous production' strategy,” added Jules Borkent, the senior VP of global acquisitions and international programming for Nickelodeon at Viacom International Media Networks. “We are using this strategy more frequently, as we have seen great success with this model with productions such as Every Witch Way and Talia in the Kitchen. We work with amazing partners who create beautifully designed sets and employ incredibly skilled teams, so why not find multiple ways to use them, to offer our audiences a diverse slate of content both at a global and local level.”
