New Director, Writer & Female Lead for TeamTO’s Jade Armor

PARIS: TeamTO has moved forward with new developments on its upcoming animated series Jade Armor, appointing Chloé Miller as director, Rebecca Hobbs as head writer and changing the original male lead character to a female heroine.

The original concept for the show was developed and presented at Cartoon Forum 2011 with a male hero as the lead, but executive producer Corinne Kouper has created a female protagonist to promote the notion of girl-power. Based on an idea by Pongo Kuo, the 52×11-minute animated action comedy follows an unlikely teenage heroine named Cho Yu who has mystical powers and a high-tech jade armor suit that is a bit unpredictable. Cho Yu fights for justice along with her best friends Yang and Lin and the magical Beasticons. The series is expected to be delivered in 2018.

Both Miller and Hobbs will report to Kouper, who is also founding manager of TeamTO. Miller joined TeamTO in 2006, and her credits include such series as Zoe Kezako, Babar and the Adventures of Badou, Angelo Rules and the feature film Yellowbird. She is a key member of the company’s development team. Hobbs has worked as an actress and scriptwriter, as well as VP of worldwide drama at FremantleMedia and as the director of development at Disney Channels EMEA. She now works freelance as both a development executive and as a scriptwriter.

“With its bubbly, feminine and brave heroine—descended from a long line of strong women—Jade Armor is a project very dear to my heart,” commented Kouper. “This modern girl role model is a fun and important one for the kids’ space and interestingly appeals to boy audiences as well.”
