ZDF Enterprises has licensed seasons one and two of the live-action children’s series The Worst Witch to NHK for its educational E-Tele channel.

NHK will produce a Japanese version of these finished episodes with a cast of well-known actors in Japan. The central character in The Worst Witch is 10-year-old Mildred Hubble, who is by far the worst student at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches.

The series is based on the popular children’s works by Jill Murphy. It was produced by CBBC Productions in collaboration with ZDF, ZDF Enterprises and Netflix. A third season is in production.

Peter Lang, VP of ZDFE.junior at ZDF Enterprises, said: “As the number one distributor of children’s live-action programs, we are delighted to see this series enchant Japanese children in the very near future.”
