LONDON: As season one continues to roll out on Disney Junior channels worldwide, Entertainment One’s (eOne) animated preschool series PJ Masks has been given the go-ahead for a sophomore season.

Produced by eOne and Frog Box in collaboration with broadcasters Disney Junior and France 5, the new season will continue to follow superheroes Catboy, Owlette and Gekko as they save the day, taking on nighttime villains Luna Girl, Romeo and Night Ninja. Season two is slated for delivery in fall 2018 and will be comprised of 52 11-minute episodes. PJ Masks is based on French author Romuald Racioppo’s picture book series Les Pyjamasques.

Olivier Dumont, the managing director of eOne Family, remarked, “Since PJ Masks launched on Disney Junior and France 5 we’ve been delighted by both the fans’ instant admiration for the series and also the broadcasters’ complete commitment to the show. Commencing production on a second series whilst PJ Masks is still launching around the world speaks to its potential to be the next big preschool hit and we look forward to introducing new narratives and characters that will excite the show’s growing fan base around the world.”

Hélène Etzi, the senior VP and general manager of Disney Channels EMEA & France, commented, “Disney Junior is home to lovable characters and stories full of adventure, fun and magic. We knew from the first moment we saw Romuald’s books about superheroes in ‘pyjamas’ that this idea was a natural fit for us. We were delighted to be part of the creative development journey for this preschool show with real heart and relatable themes and look forward to extending our partnership with eOne to bring back Catboy, Owlette and Gekko for more adventures in 2018.”

eOne is currently prepping the launch of PJ Masks consumer products, which are expected to drop in the U.S. starting this fall. Just Play is on board as global master toy partner and is rolling out action figures, play sets, vehicles and plush, as well as role-play and dress-up items. The toy line will launch to international markets in 2017. In addition, Simon and Schuster is the brand’s publishing partner in North America, and more licensees are set to come on board in other territories to launch products next year. eOne will also launch new music videos and digital content such as apps and an interactive PJ Masks website this year.
