LOS ANGELES: Funimation Entertainment and Toei Animation have extended their collaboration on the Dragon Ball franchise to include Dragon Ball Super, the latest story line from original creator Akira Toriyama.

The multi-year deal, which includes streaming, digital download and home-video distribution, introduces Dragon Ball Super to audiences in the U.S. and Canada. Viewers can now watch current subtitled episodes of the show on FunimationNow, as well as new simulcast episodes. The pact also includes broadcasting and merchandising opportunities for the series.

In addition, production is slated to kick off on an English-dubbed version of Dragon Ball Super, with broadcast and casting details to come at a later time.

“We are thrilled to continue our great partnership with Toei Animation,” said Gen Fukunaga, the CEO and founder of Funimation. “Like with the recent blockbuster Dragon Ball Z movies, having original creator Akira Toriyama passionately involved in Dragon Ball Super is so wonderful to see and for fans to experience.”

“We are delighted to introduce Dragon Ball Super to a fantastic audience together with Funimation,” added Masayuki Endo, the president of Toei Animation. “Dragon Ball Super encompasses everything fans love about Dragon Ball, while taking the mythology to a whole new level. Toei’s team of talented animators and creators have put their passion and imagination into this series.”
