DeAPlaneta Entertainment has acquired the media, digital and L&M rights worldwide, excluding North America, for the young adult animated series Ghosts of Ruin.

The series takes place in a near-future dystopian version of San Francisco, where the Tournament of Ruin introduces Neural Reality, a fully immersive technology. The gamers who join the tournament have no idea that there is actually something brutal inside the game that will be hunting them down one by one, and they must survive long enough to crack its secrets before they lose their minds and become ghosts of Ruin.

The series, produced by Battle Island, is created by PJ Accetturo and Ryan Ramsey, with Michael Ryan (Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory, Cow & Chicken, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Phineas & Ferb, Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated, Kung Fu Panda) as showrunner. Thierry Marchand (Oktapodi, Angelo Rules, Treasure Trekkers) serves as director. It is developed and produced by Michael Ramey and Katie Stippec. The original music for Ghosts of Ruin is created by Hans Zimmer’s collective Bleeding Fingers Music.

The voice cast includes Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka), Justin Long (Barbarian), Nathalie Emmanuel (Fast & Furious franchise), Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) and AleXa (K-pop star), among others.

DeAPlaneta Entertainment will now handle international distribution for all territories, excluding North America, where Bejuba! Entertainment holds the rights.

“We are excited to add such a powerful IP, and with so much talent behind it,” said Carlos Biern, content and distribution director at DeAPlaneta Kids & Family. “The quality of its animation is exceptional, and its story and direction captures your attention. We are sure it will become a favorite among gaming lovers and digital communities, one of the main targets our teams have been focusing on for our new franchises. Ghosts of Ruin is the perfect choice for any programming director looking to attract this difficult target.”

PJ Accetturo, chief executive officer at Battle Island, added, “Ghosts of Ruin is our love letter to the gaming industry and the future of the medium, imagining the next 30 years with a mix of giddy excitement combined with a healthy amount of curiosity and caution. With the incredible talent Michael and Katie managed to bring together, and this exciting deal with DeAPlaneta Entertainment, the possibilities for the franchise are endless—uniting animation fans, gamers, comic book consumers and beyond. We’re thrilled to continue exploring the world of Ruin and amassing a loyal audience of underdogs and dreamers.”
