David Oyelowo Joins Lion Guard Voice Cast

David Oyelowo (Selma) has signed on to voice the role of Scar in Disney Junior’s new animated series The Lion Guard, the sophomore season of which is due to debut next month.

The Lion Guard follows the adventures of Kion, the youngest son of The Lion King‘s Simba and Nala. The show’s second installment is slated to premiere with two back-to-back episodes on Friday, July 7, at 8 a.m. Scar, the villainous uncle of Simba, will make his first appearance on Saturday, July 29, at 9 a.m. in a special extended episode that sees Kion accidentally summon him by using the Roar of the Elders in anger.

Additional guest stars for the new season include Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton) as Dhahabu, a golden zebra; Common (Selma) as Kiburi, a crocodile; Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) as Kenge, a monitor lizard; AJ Mclean (Backstreet Boys) as Kuchimba, a golden mole; Carla Hall (The Chew) as Mpishi, an African harrier hawk; Christopher Jackson (Hamilton) as Shujaa, a strong gorilla; and CCH Pounder (Avatar) as Kongwe, an old turtle.
