Custom Nuts and Baboon Animation have greenlit two seasons of Ibn Battuta, an adventure series about the titular 14th-century explorer.

The show reimagines the explorer as a kid with big dreams who travels through unexplored lands with a magical travel trunk and donkey. Two seasons are fully funded and in preproduction, with production hubs operating in Japan, the U.S. and MENA.

Ibn Battuta is being produced with a hybrid anime model. It is targeted at a 5-to-7 and co-viewing audience.

“Together, Mike [de Seve of Baboon Animation] and I have gotten to know so many great talents over the years, and the very best of the best have been so eager to jump on board Battuta,” said Silas Hickey of Custom Nuts. “Look for some exciting announcements on that front.”
