Cartoon Network to Celebrate Global Good Awards 2023 Finalists

Cartoon Network will celebrate the Global Good Awards 2023 finalists Olivia Mandle Navarro, Jodie Bailey-Ho and Raheen Fatima with a broadcast of their achievements.

Mandle Navarro, a 16-year-old from Spain, and Bailey-Ho, a 19-year-old from the U.K., are finalists for the Canon Young Champion of the Year award. Fatima, a 15-year-old from Pakistan, won the Canon Young Champion of the Year award for the Under 16s Global Good Awards.

Mandle Navarro is an animal rights and environmental activist whose campaign, #noespaisparadelfines, with over 155,000 signatures on Change.org, asks the Spanish government for a schedule to close all dolphinariums in the country and put an end to cetaceans in captivity. At age 12, she created the Jelly Cleaner to clean microplastics from the oceans.

Bailey-Ho is nominated for her creation of a Teach the Teacher global, student-led campaign to embed effective, informative and well-integrated climate education into schools. It provides training, resources and support for young people, empowering them to deliver climate education training to their own teachers. More than 90 students in 28 countries worldwide have participated.

Fatima is an aspiring activist and podcaster who has educated more than 5,000 young minds through her theater plays and conducted over 500 online and in-person sessions on topics such as climate change. At 13, she was interviewed by Cartoon Network Climate Champions and CNN about her thoughts on climate change and how she uses her organic kitchen garden to help tackle it in her community.

The three were interviewed about their journeys as activists, sharing their inspirational stories and insights on how they overcame challenges. They discussed taking their first steps into activism and showed how every young person around the world can become a Climate Champion as well. The interview will be broadcast on the Cartoon Network Climate Champions site later this year. They will also air on Cartoon Network channels and be available to stream on HBO Max across EMEA in 2024.

Monika Oomen, VP of brand, communications and digital strategy for kids for EMEA at Warner Bros. Discovery, said: “As part of our campaign, we want to champion kids around the globe who are doing incredible things to tackle climate change and help to give them more opportunities to be heard and seen. Olivia, Jodie and Raheen are truly inspirational, and we wanted to be a megaphone for their achievements and actions. These are real young people who have actively made a difference and shown our Cartoon Network fans that they can too, if they get involved. To be selected as finalists and the winner for Global Good Awards 2023 Canon Young Champion of the Year is a spectacular achievement.”

Karen Sutton, founder of the Global Good Awards, added, “We’re so happy for the three young climate champions, each of whom is doing incredible work in the fight against climate change. We hope that by sharing their stories, other young people across the globe will be inspired to make a difference and become the Canon Young Champions of the future.”
