CAKE Forms JV for Digital Kids’ Content

LONDON: CAKE has entered into a joint venture with digital content producer and distributor Diagonal View to produce and distribute children’s programming for the digital space.

The new company, Popcorn Digital, will produce kids’ content specifically for distribution across global online media platforms, including YouTube. The intention would be for certain IPs created for AVOD platforms internationally to cross over into linear TV. CAKE will provide development experience in the kids’ arena, while Diagonal View will oversee channel management, maximize traffic and build revenue and audiences.

Digital expert Paul Nunn (Talking Tom), who joins as advisor/investor, said: “The next great kids’ content business will combine deep experience in storytelling and creating lasting broadcast relationships with a proven track record in navigating digital platforms to build audience and deepen fan engagement. Popcorn Digital is founded with huge knowledge and experience in these areas and more.”

Ed Galton, the CCO and managing director at CAKE, noted: “CAKE has been searching for the best digital approach and partnering with Diagonal View and Paul is by far the most complete solution.”

Matt Heiman, the CEO of Diagonal View, added: “Our media model is to work with partners who appreciate the value of creating compelling content for each platform their content appears on. Social Video is a massive market and the kids’ segment is highly lucrative. Bringing our creative, editorial and digital marketing expertise to kids’ content producers is a logical next step in the expansion of our franchise.”
