Behind the Scenes of Iyanu

The long-awaited Nigerian-infused animated superhero series Iyanu from Lion Forge Entertainment has debuted on Max and Cartoon Network in the U.S., bringing a taste of Yoruban culture, music and mythology to kids’ TV. Based on the graphic novel by Roye Okupe, the series follows the titular young orphan as she discovers she has divine powers. She must then embark on a journey to save her home of Yorubaland, accompanied by her friends and a magical leopard.

Now that it has debuted in the U.S., the series will be expanding its reach with a premiere on Showmax on June 13 and airing later this year in the U.K. on ITVX.

TV Kids caught up with story editor and writer Brandon Easton, writer Kerri Grant, supervising director Vincent Edwards and casting director and voice director Paula Gammon Wilson to learn about the making of the series.
