BBC Earth Debuts Building With Dinosaurs on Minecraft

BBC Earth has teamed up with Minecraft Worlds and Minecraft Education for the gaming adventure Building With Dinosaurs, inspired by Walking With Dinosaurs.

The dinosaur-themed build challenge places players in the role of paleontologists as they dig away dirt and sand to discover dino-blocks that represent different types of skin, eyes and teeth, which they can use to create models of three dinosaurs featured in the series—Spinosaurus, Lusotitan and Triceratops.

The Building With Dinosaurs challenge is accompanied by a downloadable fact sheet that includes the three dinosaurs featured the game. It provides additional information such as the height, weight, diet and habitat of each dinosaur.

Building With Dinosaurs is available across schools globally now. Walking With Dinosaurs, which returned this year after originally debuting 25 years ago, is available to watch on BBC iPlayer in the U.K. and PBS, PBS.org and the PBS app in the U.S.

“We’re proud to team up with Minecraft Education to give children around the world the chance to interact with iconic dino characters inspired by Walking with Dinosaurs,” said Kirsty Wilson, showrunner of Walking With Dinosaurs. “This interactive classroom gaming experience lets students step into the world of dinosaurs in a fun and engaging way, learning how these incredible creatures lived and ruled the Earth millions of years ago.”

Justin Edwards, director of learning experience at Minecraft Education, added, “Minecraft Education is delighted to bring this amazing dinosaur experience to students. This world, created in partnership with the BBC Studios Walking With Dinosaurs team, brings STEM skills into classrooms by creating a deeper connection with the world of palaeontology and natural history. We know that dinosaur fans are going to love it!”
