BAFTA Children’s Awards Nominees Unveiled

LONDON: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has revealed the nominations for the 20th British Academy Children’s Awards, with the animated series Peppa Pig up for two honors.

Peppa Pig, Operation Ouch!, Sam & Mark’s Big Friday Wind-Up, The Incredible Adventures of Professor Branestawm and Harriet’s Army have all received two nominations. Meanwhile, Horrible Histories has been nominated for three awards. In the animation category, nominees include The Amazing World of Gumball, Mr Bean the Animated Series, Shaun the Sheep and Strange Hill High. In the comedy category, the list includes All at Sea, Gigglebiz, Horrible Histories Special and The Incredible Adventures of Professor Branestawm. Drama nominees are The Dumping Ground, Harriet’s Army, Katie Morag and Wolfblood.

The entertainment category sees Justin’s House, Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch, Sam & Mark’s Big Friday Wind-Up and Swashbuckle going head to head. Meanwhile, in the factual category there is Being Me: A Newsround Special, I Am Leo (My Life), Mr Alzheimers and Me and Operation Ouch! The international category includes Adventure Time, Clarence, Gravity Falls and Nowhere Boys.

Feature films up for an award are Big Hero 6, Inside Out, Paddington and Shaun the Sheep: The Movie, while in the game category there is Adventure Time Game Wizard, Minecraft Console Edition, Splatoon and Yoshi’s Woolly World. The interactive (adapted) category includes the CBeebies Storyime app, The Dumping Ground: You’re the Boss, Gruffalo: Games and Transformers: Robots in Disguise. In the interactive (original) category, there is Escargot Escape Artistes, Monster Mingle, Teach Your Monster to Read 3: Champion Reader and Virry. 

Cartoon Network, CBBC, CBeebies and CYW are all up for the channel of the year distinction, and Factory, Lime Pictures, Pretzel TV and Somethin’ Else are up for independent production company of the year.

Awards will also be presented in the following categories: learning (primary), learning (secondary), performer, preschool (animation), preschool (live action), presenter, short form and writer.

The BAFTA Kids Vote launched earlier this week. Until November 21, children aged 7 to 14 can cast their votes at the new-look BAFTA Kids website. The awards ceremony will be held at London’s Roundhouse on November 22 and will be hosted by Doc Brown.
