Animation du Monde 2020 Heads to East Africa

Nairobi Comic Con (NAICCON) 2019 is set to host the fourth leg of the Pan-African Animation du Monde 2020 preliminary rounds.

Following stops in South and West Africa, Animation du Monde’s East Africa round will take place from August 24 to 25. A trio of contestants from the round will have the chance to move forward to the Continental Finals that will be held in November at DISCOP Johannesburg.

Salim Busuru, a past entrant from NAICCON who presented his title at the 2018 Continental Finals at DISCOP Johannesburg, said: “The animation competition broadened my perspective on animation on the continent; it confirmed that I was on the right path in my pursuit of animation. Meeting the other participants and the mentorship from the judges as well as the organizers was invaluable. I believe it compensated a lot for my lack of formal training in animation and storytelling.”

It was previously announced that the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and its Mifa market will focus on Africa in 2020.
