AGC Television Lines Up Alex Van Helsing Adaptation

AGC Television is adapting Jason Henderson’s Alex Van Helsing books as a series, with Kit Williamson (Eastsiders) on board to write.

Like the books, the series will center on 14-year-old Alex, who has no idea that he is descended from the world’s most famous vampire hunter. That changes when he arrives at a new academy and two of his friends are kidnapped by vampires, forcing him to embark on a quest to rescue them and fulfill his family destiny.

There are three books in the Alex Van Helsing series: Vampire Rising, Voice of the Undead and The Triumph of Death. The books are published by HarperTeen, an imprint of Harper Collins Publishers.

AGC’s Lourdes Diaz, chief creative officer; Aghi Koh, head of the YA division; and Stuart Ford, CEO are executive producing the series adaptation.

Williamson will pen the screen adaptation. He is the creator, director and star of the Emmy Award-winning Eastsiders and has been nominated for six Emmys. Recently, he wrote the musical comedy feature Varsity Drag for Netflix, with Kenny Ortega attached to direct, and a feature adaptation of Camp for Max, with Billie Porter attached to direct and star. He is also currently developing The Heralds of Valdemar series for Universal Television and has written projects for CBS, Sony, Screen Gems, Legendary, A&E and MTV Studios.
