CANNES: Mattel Creations’ new 2D animated show WellieWishers, part of the American Girl brand, has been snapped up for the first time in Europe by Tiny Pop in the U.K.

WellieWishers follows the adventures of five characters who work, dream and play together in their aunt’s whimsical backyard. The 26×11-minute series, aimed at girls between the ages of 5 and 7, will debut on Tiny Pop in early 2017 and will remain on the channel for the next three years. It has also been greenlit for a sophomore season.

Alex Godfrey, the director of content distribution and new media for Europe at Mattel Creations, said: “Since presenting WellieWishers at MIPTV 2016, we have been delighted with the reception from partners and broadcasters and [are] thrilled its first European launch will be with Tiny Pop, as the look and feel of the new show fits in nicely with Pop’s portfolio of content. With its timeless, illustration-inspired design and contemporary storytelling, we believe WellieWishers will connect with audiences around the world, and we’re delighted to greenlight a second [season] of this magical show.”
