SYDNEY: Filming on the third installment of the action/adventure series Nowhere Boys, which airs on ABC3 in Australia, has kicked off this week in Melbourne.

Set in the fictional town of Bremin, the new season will pick up a few years after the epic battle that saw the original Nowhere Boys surrender their powers to restore order. It will introduce a new group of characters, including Luke (Kamil Ellis, Bushwhacked!), Nicco (Luca Sardelis, Sam Fox: Extreme Adventures), Ben (William McKenna), Jesse (Jordie Caldrey-Race) and Heath (Joe Klocek, Barracuda). The 13-part third season is due to debut on ABC3 later this year.

Nowhere Boys, produced by Matchbox Pictures, first began airing in 2013. The International Emmy-winning show is created by Tony Ayres, who also serves as an executive producer. It is being sold internationally by NBCUniversal.

Chris Oliver-Taylor, the managing director of Matchbox Pictures, said: “Matchbox Pictures is incredibly excited to be able to bring Tony Ayres’ creation to life for a third [season] of Nowhere Boys. The franchise is such a huge international hit and with the exciting new cast supported by some of the finest creative talent in the country, we have no doubt that the third [season] will be just as exciting as [seasons] one and two for our audiences.”

Richard Finlayson, the director of television for ABC, added: “Nowhere Boys has gone from strength to strength, capturing the imagination of young Australians and audiences around the world with each [season], and picking up a slew of awards on the way. I’m thrilled that ABC, along with Matchbox Pictures, is continuing the program’s journey with this third installment.”
