Virgin Island Lands First International Commission

Passion Distribution has signed the first international deal for Virgin Island, with BNNVARA in the Netherlands ordering a Dutch version from Concept Street.

Originally produced by Double Act, the format delivered Channel 4’s biggest streaming launch in its history across any genre and has generated more than 13 million views across the broadcaster’s social channels.

“BNNVARA has a long tradition of making the uncomfortable discussable, especially when it comes to sexuality, intimacy and the realities young people face,” BNNAVARA said in a statement. “In a time where performance pressure, online comparison and loneliness shape how young generations relate to each other, honest conversations about connection are more necessary than ever. Virgin Island is bold, vulnerable and culturally urgent, exactly the kind of format that resonates with young audiences while taking them seriously. It reflects our belief that public-service television should not shy away from taboos but open them up.”

“We’re thrilled to see that Virgin Island is taking off around the world,” Double Act said. “In an era of rising intimacy anxiety and a lack of physical connection, this show’s strikingly provocative conceit tackles a universal emergency head on—delivering something that is authentic, emotionally rich and truly transformational.”

Passion Distribution added, “The audacity of the concept, combined with Double Act’s nuanced documentary approach, has delivered a bold social experiment that speaks directly to the real concerns of young people. Spawning genuine OMG-level virality and streaming success, it’s no surprise that the world is taking notice.”

Passion Distribution has also secured multiple finished-program sales, licensing season one of the original U.K. series to BNNVARA in the Netherlands, TVNZ in New Zealand, Play Media in Flemish-speaking Belgium and SBS in Australia.
