A reimagined version of the reality competition format The Mole has been ordered by Netflix.

In the format, 12 players work together in challenges to add money to a pot that only one of them will win at the end. Among the players is one person who has secretly been designated ‘the Mole’ and tasked with sabotaging the group’s money-making efforts.

For Netflix, the ten-part series is produced by Eureka Productions and will be launched in fall 2022.

The Mole has seen more than 20 international versions. Since its launch in 1998, series have been produced in the U.S., Germany and the Nordics, among others. It is currently still running in Belgium, the Netherlands and Sweden. An Italian adaptation for Mediaset is scheduled for 2023.

Jan Huyse, managing director at Primitives, said, “The Mole is one of the best reality formats in the market and is still going strong after 20-plus years. We are very proud of its ongoing success and are thrilled that it will be introduced to new audiences worldwide through Netflix. We are inviting everyone to join the Mole-hunt this fall.”
