Paramount+ Canada Launches The Fashion Hero

Paramount+ Canada has launched The Fashion Hero: A New Kind of Beautiful, a new competition series hosted by former Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean.

The show sees celebrity coaches representing brands such as Elizabeth Arden and Inglot build teams of four from 22 contestants. Along with special guest mentors, they guide the teams through emotional and character-building challenges designed to break down the traditional barriers set by the beauty industry and encourage regular people to be confident in who they are.

The winner will become the face of an international brand campaign and take home exceptional prizes.

The contestants come from all over the world, including Canada, Israel, Sweden, Uganda, Nigeria, China and more, and range in ages from 21 to 60. Special guest mentors include Canadian rock band Simple Plan, personal trainer to the stars Drew Manning, Janet Jackson’s former choreographer Rene Elizondo, Canadian popstar Jordyn Sugar, former Drag Queen Lenny Williams and internationally recognized photographer Adi Barkan, whose photos appeared in Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Bazaar and who has campaigned for legislation banning the use of anorexic models.

The Fashion Hero: A New Kind of Beautiful is produced by Beauty World Search and distributed worldwide by Indigo Entertainment.

“I was part of this unrealistic world of beauty and pageantry, and one day, I had a vision of an industry where all body types and ethnicities were celebrated,” said Caroline Bernier, executive producer and president of Beauty World Search. “I created The Fashion Hero six years ago. Now we have millions of visitors on our website and more than 200,000 participants that believe that beauty is everywhere. I am so proud of our contestants coming from all over the world. They will inspire their peers with their journeys on The Fashion Hero: A New Kind of Beautiful. Some of them had a rough time in their lives, and now they are celebrating their uniqueness, including our own host, AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys, who had challenges of his own. He is so touching, inspiring and funny. We love him and can’t wait for the world to watch our series. It’s a game changer!”

“This show is real, raw, nurturing, awe-inspiring and unlike anything you’ll ever see on television,” added McLean.

“Indigo Entertainment is delighted to have brokered this license with Paramount+ Canada for The Fashion Hero: A New Kind of Beautiful on behalf of Beauty World Search,” said Emma Collin, programming director at Indigo Entertainment. “It was important to find not just any partner, but the right one for A New Kind of Beautiful’s international debut. For a show that puts diversity front and center, we wanted a global brand that equally champions and serves diverse audiences. In addition, creating connections and building community are at the heart of Paramount’s culture, making it the perfect platform for this ground-breaking format.”
