Fear Factor Returning in Russia

NTV in Russia has commissioned a local treatment of Fear Factor from WeiT Media, a Banijay company.

The deal marks a return for the Fear Factor format in Russia after 16 years. The new localized series will air later this year, hosted by singer Anatoliy Tsoy.

Filming for the 8×48-minute series will take place in Tula, known in Russia as a “hero city.”

Timur Weinstein, general producer of NTV Broadcasting Company, said, “We have extensive experience in adapting international formats, and now it’s the time for cult classic Fear Factor to broadcast on our channel once again. More than 15 years have passed since the original series aired on NTV, and we are excited that our viewers will experience the show and the new surprises we have in store.”

Yulia Sumacheva, managing director of WeiT Media, said, “Fear Factor is one of the most talked-about shows on Russian television, and it’s great to be bringing this exciting format to the next generation of viewers. Filmed in a brilliant location, this reboot features a fantastic lineup of Russian celebrities as they tackle their fears head-on in new challenges, which are bigger and better than ever before.”

Lucas Green, global head of content operations at Banijay, added, “This is one of Banijay’s most iconic formats, with celebrities working together to confront fears in extraordinary ways. In a year like no other, audiences can relate to overcoming challenges, and we are confident this Russian comeback will resonate with and draw a new fanbase.”
