British Sitcom Miranda Being Adapted for ZDFneo

BBC Studios Germany has been commissioned for a local adaptation of the award-winning British sitcom Miranda.

The eight-part series will be co-produced by BBC Studios Germany and Studio Zentral for ZDFneo. It marks BBC Studios Germany’s first commission since launching in the territory this year.

A BBC production that is written by and starring British comedian Miranda Hart, Miranda will be adapted for the German market with the working title Ruby and will be directed by Natascha Beller. The screenplay is being adapted by Giulia Becker and Anika Soisson. Anna Böger has been cast in the lead role.

Filming is currently taking place in Cologne and the broadcast dates for ZDFneo and to be featured in the ZDFmediathek have yet to be set.

This will be the second international version of Miranda, following a U.S. adaptation for FOX under the title Call Me Kat, which has been renewed for a second season.

Philipp Schmid, managing director of BBC Studios Germany, said, “I’m thrilled to be able to announce BBC Studios Germany’s first commission since formally launching in January. BBC Studios scripted format for Miranda Hart’s Miranda is so warm, funny and timeless that we wanted to make a German version from the day we launched our new business here. We are excited to make it for our German audience and hope they will be just as entertained by Ruby (w/t) as British audiences were by Miranda.”
