Beat the Channel Heads to Spain

The entertainment format Beat the Channel is being given a local treatment in Spain by Boxfish for Atresmedia Televisión.

To be called López y Leal contra el canal in Spain, the local version will air on Antena 3 later this year. Roberto Leal and Iñaki López will be competing, with Eva González as presenter.

Tim Gerhartz, managing director of Red Arrow Studios International, which licensed the format, said: “We are delighted that Antena 3 has commissioned Beat the Channel. Broadcasters around the world are looking for entertainment formats that differentiate their schedules, and with its high-energy, hilarious stunts, games and celebrity guests, this format ticks all the boxes. Following its outstanding success in Germany, we’re confident that Spanish viewers will enjoy this noisy, watercooler hit which makes for perfect family viewing.”

Edi Walter, CEO of Boxfish, added: “For Boxfish, this is a dream come true! Having the opportunity to produce such a powerful format for Atresmedia with such good hosts is just what every production company wants. Beat the Channel is an entertainment format with original mechanics and lots of humor; fundamental requirements in order to conquer the hearts of audiences in our country and anywhere in the world.”

Carmen Ferreiro, director of entertainment programs at Atresmedia Televisión, said: “We are very pleased that Beat the Channel is now part of our family as it is a priority for Atresmedia to continue betting on the most internationally successful formats. This program combines humor, spectacle and three powerful presenters; it has all the ingredients we look for in a show at Antena 3—entertainment that will continue to surprise the viewer.”

The original Beat the Channel is produced by Florida Entertainment for ProSieben under the local title Joko & Klaas gegen ProSieben. The format has also been licensed in France, Portugal and Italy.
