BBC Three Commissions Young MasterChef

BBC Three has commissioned the new culinary talent series Young MasterChef (working title) from Banijay UK’s Shine TV.

Dedicated to up-and-coming food talent between the ages of 18 and 25, the show will put the hopeful chefs through a series of challenges to push them and reflect Britain’s food revolution. Anyone in the age group is eligible to apply, regardless of experience.

Young MasterChef (w/t) will sit alongside the original MasterChef, which has consistently been the BBC’s highest-rated cooking format over the past five years; Celebrity MasterChef, the BBC’s second-highest-rated cooking show; and MasterChef: The Professionals, which recently moved to BBC One.

The new series is made by Shine TV in association with Ziji Productions.

“We’re delighted that Young MasterChef will be coming to BBC Three,” said Kate Phillips, controller of entertainment. “We know how much BBC viewers love MasterChef, and the BBC Three series will be a great opportunity to tap into the huge wealth of young budding chefs out there, from all over the U.K.”

Fiona Campbell, controller of BBC Three, added, “With its focus on the culinary talent of tomorrow, Young MasterChef has all the ingredients to be a big success for us, and we can’t wait to watch the next generation of food lovers from across the U.K. cook up a storm on BBC Three.”

“We’re super excited to be coming to BBC Three with a fresh new Young MasterChef competition,” said David Ambler, Shine TV’s executive editor for MasterChef. “It’s a great opportunity for any young person passionate about food, and we can’t wait to open the kitchen doors to discover some incredible cooks from all backgrounds.”
