BBC One has commissioned an hour-long pilot of the tentatively titled factual-entertainment show The Recording Studio from FremantleMedia UK’s Boundless.

The Recording Studio looks on as ordinary people are given the chance to record the most important song of their lives in a world-class studio. The show will explore the personal experiences of each contributor and their reasons for wanting to capture a particular song. The format is globally distributed by FremantleMedia.

Catherine Catton, commissioning editor for popular factual and factual ent, commented: “The Recording Studio will bring pure warmth and joy to BBC One. We’re incredibly excited about removing judgment from performance as this is about enabling contributors to mark an important moment in their lives rather than chase a record deal. I hope by commissioning into this space, we’re demonstrating a real commitment to find new factual-entertainment formats.”

Amelia Brown, executive producer for Boundless, stated: “The Recording Studio is a really inspirational and uplifting format. We follow the journey of each contributor as they share their personal stories to create a remarkable recording for themselves, family or friends to remember forever. Heartwarming television at its best.”

Kat Lennox, executive producer for Boundless, added: “We’re delighted to be making this unique, entertaining pilot for the BBC. The Recording Studio will see people overcome huge obstacles to record a song with the help of music professionals in a world-class studio, giving them a transformative musical experience, which will have an immensely positive impact on their lives—we’re looking forward to it being an exciting, uplifting new format.”
