Banijay Rights has inked a deal for the game show Beat Your Host with the free-to-air broadcaster MBC in the Middle East.

MBC has commissioned Cedars Art Production to produce the regional version of the format, Beat the Star, which will be entitled Eghleb El Sakka or Beat El Sakka locally. All of the contestants are Arabic celebrities competing to beat the Egyptian action movie megastar Ahmad El Sakka. The show will premiere on MBC on April 23 and will air daily during the holy month of Ramadan 2020.

MBC has also commissioned a second series of the E Producers-produced format Strike from Banijay Rights’ slate. The adventure game show Fort Boyard, produced by Adventure Line Productions, is set to air another series later this year in Morocco. Further, Banijay Rights has inked a deal to send the music reality format Popstars to Algeria for the first time. Wellcom Advertising has secured the rights to the show in the market.

Samia Moktar, sales manager at Banijay Rights, said: “The appetite for our formats just keeps growing in the Middle East. It’s really exciting to see new commissions for Strike and Popstars and to witness these shows being adapted for local Middle Eastern audiences. Beat Your Host will undoubtedly be received with as much enthusiasm and we look forward to evolving the shows for the maximum enjoyment of Middle Eastern viewers.”
