Amazon has commissioned a Japanese adaptation of the Australian comedy No Activity.

This marks the first adaptation in Asia for Jungle Entertainment’s scripted format. The Japanese version will center on low-ranking detectives Shingo Tokita and Asobu Shiina as they embark on a large-scale stakeout mission. It is set to launch with six episodes on Amazon Prime Video on December 17.

No Activity‘s Japanese adaptation stars Etsushi Toyokawa and Tomoya Nakamura. Tsutomu Hanabusa directs the series, whose scripts are written by Jiro of the comedy duo Sissonne.

No Activity has previously been adapted by CBS All Access/Paramount+ in the U.S., HBO Max in Spain, NPO3 in the Netherlands, Streamz in Belgium, RTL Now in Germany and OSN in the Middle East.

Toyokawa said: “I truly enjoyed Jiro’s scripts and found every line very convincing. Since I knew my buddy was going to be played by Tomoya, I was very happy to accept the offer. Please enjoy the dialogue between our characters, which is full of wit and humor.”

Nakamura commented: “It is rare in Japan to find a comedy-drama where the story unfolds only with conversations. I knew I would really enjoy being involved in this series, and I hope Prime members will enjoy my character’s unusual friendship with Tokita.”

Hanabusa said: “Jiro’s scripts were impressive, and I just loved it. This series is a totally new, never-before-seen detective drama starring great actors, so I hope audiences look forward to the launch.”

Jiro added: “I was overwhelmed when I saw the big names on the cast list. The dialogue between these unique characters makes this series a must-see. I’m excited to see how it turns out under Tsutomu’s direction.”
