Aussie Version of The School That Tried to End Racism

ABC in Australia is set to premiere The School That Tried to End Racism, a three-part series hosted by Marc Fennell.

Based on the BAFTA Award-winning U.K. series, The School That Tried to End Racism explores a pilot program that is designed to provide children with the tools to identify racial bias and make positive change. It will launch on ABC TV and ABC iview on September 21.

Filmed in a New South Wales primary school, the local version of the series will follow a team of educators and expert Professor Fiona White as they attempt to reverse the racial bias in a multicultural class of 9- to 11-year-old students. Over three weeks, the students go through a series of entertaining and eye-opening activities inside and outside of the classroom, challenging what they thought they knew about race.

Comedian Nazeem Hussain; writer and ABC sports reporter Tony Armstrong; Olympian Bendere Oboya; Sasha Sarago, editor and founder of Ascension; associate professor Anna Clark; and Uncle Michael Welsh and Uncle Richard Campbell all make appearances in the series.

The School That Tried To End Racism is a Screentime Australia production for the ABC, with major production investment from the ABC in association with Screen Australia and financed with support from Screen NSW. It is based on the original program of the same name by Proper Content, licensed and distributed by Banijay Rights.
