BBC Studios has sold The Great Bake Off to Kenya’s Showstopper Media for a local adaptation.

The deal marks the first format sale that BBC Studios has licensed in East Africa and the 32nd country that the Love Productions cooking show has aired in. The Kenyan broadcaster has yet to be announced, but the ten-episode series will be sponsored by the Unga Group, which is comprised of businesses ranging from wheat and maize milling to baking and animal nutrition products; the company is hoping that through the format, the nation will be inspired to bake.

Showstopper has already produced a local adaptation of Dragon’s Den, which airs in Kenya as Lion’s Den. The production company is co-owned by Daniel Prior and Kiran Jethwa, the latter of whom has hosted and presented food programs such as Extreme and Food Unwrapped for Channel 4.

The Great Bake Off sees amateur bakers face off through a signature, technical and showstopper round, baking everything from local fare to world-renowned delicacies, for a shot to be crowned champion.

The Great Bake Off has proved an international hit and continues to win new fans in every corner of the globe,” commented André Renaud, VP of global format sales at BBC Studios. “We’re delighted with the news that Kenya will be getting their very own local version of the baking competition following the popularity of the international U.K. and Australian editions of the show, which currently broadcast on DStv’s BBC Lifestyle. The deal helps to broaden the international reach of the show, and we all look forward to growing The Great Bake Off fan base even further.”
