LONDON: Channel 4 has ordered the cooking competition show My Kitchen Rules UK, based on the Australian format, to air later this year.

My Kitchen Rules UK is produced by 7 Wonder and is based on Australia’s My Kitchen Rules. Steve Jones hosts the series, which sees cooking duos create pop-up restaurants in their own homes for rival contestants and the judges to sample. The winner walks away with the title of Britain’s Best Home Chef and a prize of £10,000 ($15,000).

Jones, who in addition to hosting serves as co-judge, said: “This show is about real people making really great food; showcasing the very best of regional produce and pride in local dishes. Britain has got such a rich and diverse food heritage and I can’t wait to get my teeth into it.”

Executive producer Eve Kay added: “Pop-up restaurants are the latest addition to the U.K.’s ongoing food revolution and a brilliant way for amateur chefs to show off their cooking skills and passion for food. An entertaining national competition pitching different regions against each other will bring out the best in British food and should discover exciting new food talent.”

Syeda Irtizaali, the commissioning editor of entertainment for Channel 4 daytime, stated: “We are delighted to be bringing our own distinct version of this highly successful Australian series to Channel 4 with the brilliant Steve Jones at the helm, alongside top chef names. My Kitchen Rules UK will inject real glamor, entertainment and competitive edge into the world of Britain’s greatest home chefs as we ask, could you take the pressure of transforming your home into a five-star restaurant for the night?”
