BBC Studios Entertainment Opening New Development Label

BBC Studios Entertainment has tapped Rare TV alum Fernando de Jesus to launch a new development label focused on creating globally scalable scripted entertainment formats.

The new label will build a range of series and formats across entertainment, factual entertainment, game and competition. De Jesus brings his experience as the former creative director of Rare TV and former creative director of Studio Ramsay Global to his new role, which he will take up in January.

The new label will sit within the development division headed by Karl Warner, executive VP of BBC Studios Entertainment and Digital Development.

“Fernando’s range—from global formats to innovative digital-first content—makes him uniquely placed to build a fresh label with major creative firepower,” said Warner and Suzy Lamb, managing director of BBC Studios Entertainment Productions. “No idea will be too big or too ambitious for our award-winning production teams. We can’t wait for him to get started.”

“I’m genuinely buzzing to join Karl, Suzy and all the brilliant minds at BBC Studios Entertainment,” de Jesus commented. “With the support of this world-class global content studio behind us, I’m excited to lead the new label and create the next wave of ambitious entertainment formats and premium mischief—all with real heart, big humor and plenty of style.

In a statement, Alex Gardiner, chairman of Rare TV, said, “We’ve loved working with Fernando at Rare but recognize this is an excellent opportunity for him, which he should grab with both hands. We wish him every success going forward.”
