The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem TV Adaptation

Israel’s Yes TV has commissioned an initial two seasons of the new multigenerational melodrama The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem, adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name written by Sarit Yishai-Levy.

Set in the early-mid 20th century, The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem unravels, re-creates and brings to life the story of a family set against the backdrop of the Ottoman Empire, The British Mandate and Israel’s War of Independence. The series begins in 1917 and features a colorful, passionate and tragic story interwoven with Judeo-Spanish traditions and the history of a nascent country.

Yes Studios (Fauda, Your Honor, Shtisel, 68 Whiskey, On the Spectrum) is behind the series, which will be shot in Hebrew, English, Ladino and Arabic. It was created by Shlomo Mashiach and Ester Namdar Tamam. The series is written by Mashiach (Your Honor), directed by Oded Davidoff and produced by Dafna Prenner and Shai Eines from Artza Productions.

It will air on Yes TV in early 2021 and represents the broadcaster’s largest financial investment to-date.
