Sky has set the cast for its new original thriller Inheritance, produced by Snowed-In Productions in association with Sky Studios.

The five-part limited series will star Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Surface, Loki), Jonny Lee Miller (Covenant, The Crown), Sheldon Shepherd (Better Must Come, Bob Marley: One Love) and Bel Powley (A Small Light, The Morning Show). Mbatha-Raw will play a young biracial lawyer who embarks on a journey to Jamaica to challenge an inheritance claim filed by an unknown local resident against the wealthy white aristocrat Oliver Connaught.

Her quest takes an unexpected turn when the contested estate reveals the house that has haunted her nightmares is the Connaught family’s Jamaican plantation, Hope Hill. As she and Oliver investigate, they uncover a chilling connection between historical horrors and present-day injuries.

Shepherd stars as Cudjoe East, the local resident, and Lee-Miller plays Connaught.

Additional cast members are Nadean Rawlins (Bob Marley: One Love, Sprinter), Sean Gilder (Mary & George, Slow Horses), Olunike Adeliyi (The Fire Inside, Mike), Richard Dillane (Wolf Hall, The Crown), Diveen Henry (The Day of the Jackal, Manhunt), Jack Bandeira (Happy Valley, Black Mirror) and Shantol Jackson (Death in Paradise, Yardie).

Inheritance is created by writer and actor Karla Crome (Am I Being Unreasonable, Carnival Row), based on an original idea by Jefferson Bannis. It is being directed by Storm Saulter (Better Mus’ Come, Sprinter). It will be available on Sky in the U.K. and Ireland. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will handle international sales.

“I feel humbled to be working with such a brilliant team both here and in Jamaica,” Crome said. “It is a privilege to see Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jonny Lee Miller, Sheldon Shepherd and Bel Powley bringing my characters to life under Storm Saulter’s evocative direction, and I can’t wait to share our work with audiences.”

“Karla’s an extraordinary talent who has unleashed her wild imagination to create thrillingly unpredictable and original scripts,” commented Ruth Kenley-Letts, executive producer and CEO of Snowed-In Productions, and Jenny van der Lande, executive producer. “We are so lucky to be working with her and are grateful for Sky’s commitment and support in bringing this to the screen.”

Meghan Lyvers, executive director of original scripted for Sky UK and Ireland, added, “We are proud to support Karla Crome and the Snowed-In team in bringing this bold, original and provocative story to screen. With production beginning shortly, we’re thrilled to embark on this journey with an extraordinary creative team and this stellar cast.”
