SK Global Options Rights to Tiger & Bunny

SK Global (Crazy Rich Asians, Hell or High Water) is set to develop a live-action series adaptation of the Japanese anime Tiger & Bunny.

The original animated series, produced by Bandai Namco Pictures, takes place in a futuristic city where large corporations sponsor professional superheroes whose exploits are then broadcast on a popular reality show. The live-action series will be showrun by M. Raven Metzner (Iron Fist, Sleepy Hollow, Star Trek: Discovery).

Masayuki Ozaki of Bandai Namco Pictures, a producer on the original series, will executive produce the new live-action show, alongside Filosophia CEO Tetsu Fujimura (Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell).

SK Global’s John Penotti, Charlie Corwin and Marcy Ross said, “We are very excited to translate Tiger & Bunny into a live-action series as we, M. Raven Metzner and our partners at Bandai Namco Pictures believe in the universal and timeless appeal of this unique narrative. The colorful characters, great action sequences, humor, spectacle and mystery are spot on live-action hallmarks for contemporary actors, filmmakers and audiences.”

Ozaki stated, “Adapting Tiger & Bunny takes the understanding and support of our accomplished partner SK Global, who are committed to their work with Asian IPs and partners. Now with M. Raven Metzner, a talented showrunner with a love for Tiger & Bunny, we fully expect this will be an adaptation that captures the essence of the original series, while bringing something new and fresh for a worldwide audience to enjoy.”

Raven Metzner added, “As a massive fan of the Tiger & Bunny anime series, I am thrilled to be a part of the team bringing this unique and vibrant story to life as a live-action series. We’ve got a really cool take on a superhero story, a new angle on what it means to be a hero that explores how social media and reality television affect us all so deeply in this moment. I couldn’t dream of better partners to realize this with than SK Global. They are uniquely positioned with an international mindset that will, I think, be crucial in bringing this cast of diverse, grounded heroes to the small screen.”
