BBC One Northern Ireland (NI) and BBC iPlayer have slated the premiere of Crá, an Irish-language crime drama with English subtitles, for November 17.

The series begins when Garda Barry Roche finds a body buried in a bog, which turns out to be his colleague Garda Conall Ó Súilleabháin’s mother, who has been missing for 15 years. Ó Súilleabháin is forbidden from working on the case, but he is drawn into it anyway by a determined young journalist using her true-crime podcast to expose the village’s deepest secrets.

Alex Murphy (The Young Offenders) stars as Roche, and Dónall Ó Héalai (Monster, Foscadh) plays Ó Súilleabháin. The cast also includes newcomer Hannah Brady, including Barry McGovern (Obituary), Róisín Murphy (Vikings), Tara Breathnach (Borderline, Dune 2), Caoimhe Farren (The Woman in the Wall) and Alan Mahon (King Frankie).

Crá is written by Doireann Ní Chorragáin and Richie Conroy (Fran the Man) and directed by Philip Doherty (Redemption of a Rogue). It is produced by Fíbín Media and Zoogon for BBC Gaeilge and TG4, with support from Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund, Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán, Gréasán na Meán Skillnet and distributor About Premium Content (APC).

Executive producers are Darach Ó Tuairisg for Fíbín Media, Karen Kirby for BBC Northern Ireland and Máire Ní Chonláin for TG4. Ciarán Charles is a producer for TG4.
