Filming has begun on the new ITV and Hera Pictures drama I Fought the Law, starring Sheridan Smith.

The four-part series portrays the real-life story of mother Ann Ming and her fight to change the Double Jeopardy Law and see her daughter’s murderer brought to justice. It is written by screenwriter Jamie Crichton (All Creatures Great and Small, The Last Kingdom, Grantchester) and based on Ming’s book For the Love of Julie.

I Fought the Law recounts how the tenacious mother of three battled for 15 years so that her daughter’s murderer could finally face justice, having been controversially acquitted following two mistrials.

The cast also includes Daniel York Loh (Scarborough) and Enzo Cilenti (The Crown).

Hera Pictures (Mary & George, What It Feels Like For a Girl, Hamnet, Temple, Honour) will produce the series in association with All3Media International. I Fought the Law will air on ITV1 and ITVX.

All3Media International will be responsible for the distribution of the series.
