Apple TV+ Lines Up New German & French Series

Apple TV+ has boarded the new German medical drama KRANK Berlin, as well as a new French thriller series.

The eight-episode KRANK Berlin stars Haley Louise Jones (Dear Child, Paradise) as Dr. Parker, who manages a chaotic emergency room in the most overcrowded hospital in Berlin. When she tries to implement necessary reforms, she is confronted with resistance from the underpaid, poorly equipped and chronically fatigued hospital staff who are only able to survive the chaotic atmosphere through black humor.

The cast also includes Slavko Popadić (Crooks), Şafak Şengül (Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush), Aram Tafreshian (Dogs of Berlin), Samirah Breuer (The Gryphon), Bernhard Schütz (Barbarians) and Peter Lohmeyer (I don’t work here).

The series is produced by Violet Pictures and Real Film Berlin for ZDFneo and Apple TV+. It is co-created by emergency room physician-turned-screenwriter Samuel Jefferson and Viktor Jakovleski. It is executive produced by Violet Pictures’ Alexis von Wittgenstein (Oktoberfest: Beer & Blood) and Real Film’s Henning Kamm (Unorthodox). Beta Film is handling international rights.

The six-part French thriller, titled A l’ombre des forêts, comes from creator and director Cédric Anger (Next Time I’ll Aim for the Heart) and executive producers Isabelle Degeorges and Christophe Riandee for Gaumont (Lupin, Becoming Karl Lagerfeld, Totem).

In the series, starring Benoît Magimel (Pacifiction, De Son Vivant) and Mélanie Laurent (Inglorious Basterds, Wingwomen), Franck and his longtime friends spend their weekends hunting together. One Sunday, however, they come across another group of hunters who begin targeting them with no explanation. When one of their party is shot, Franck’s friends strike back and send one of the attackers to the ground. After barely managing to escape, the four friends decide to keep the event a secret. Franck attempts to go back to his life as usual, but in the days after, he starts to feel like he and his friends are being watched and tracked by hunters now determined to get revenge.
