TV Movies Top the List for MTVNI

LONDON: MTV Networks International (MTVNI) has firmed up deals on its TV movies Gym Teacher and Spectacular! ahead of MIPTV, where the company will present three new telefilms for international syndication.

Gym Teacher and Spectacular! both sold to Vrak TV in Canada. Gym Teacher looks at the tribulations of a failed Olympic athlete, played by Law & Order‘s Chris Meloni, who is trying to take his underperforming high-school team to victory. Spectacular! follows the fallout when a bad-boy rock star, played by Nolan Gerrard Funk, joins a corny show choir.

At MIPTV, MTVNI will be presenting three new TV movies, including A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner! The film, which combines live action and CGI, is an adaptation of the animated series The Fairly Odd Parents. The project is executive produced by series creators Butch Hartman and Lauren Levine, co-executive produced by Scott MacAboy, directed by Savage Steve Holland and written by Butch Hartman and the series’ former writer Scott Fellows (Big Time Rush).

Next up is Best Player, which stars Jennette McCurdy and Jerry Trainor of iCarly. It centers on two superstar cyber athletes who inadvertently discovery that the real world is just as exciting as a virtual one. Best Player comes from the team behind Spectacular!

Victoria Justice, of Nickelodeon’s Victorious, stars in The Boy Who Cried Werewolf, alongside Brooke Shields. The teen comedy, which features a sci-fi twist, has Justice playing a shy and unpopular teen who is transformed into a werewolf during a visit to Romania, where her family has inherited an ancient castle.
