TV Land Picks Up The Dick Van Dyke Show

NEW YORK: The classic sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show is joining the TV Land lineup on October 3, exactly 50 years since its 1961 debut on CBS.

To celebrate the golden anniversary, TV Land will be airing 36 “best of” episodes. From October 3 to 7, the channel will air the series from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will marathon the episodes during the weekend of October 8 and 9 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Following the commemorative marathon, the show takes a regular weekday slot at 7 p.m.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have The Dick Van Dyke Show back in our line-up," said Jaclyn Cohen, the executive VP of programming and acquisitions for TV Land. "From Carl Reiner’s creation of the incomparable Dick Van Dyke Show to his recurring guest star role in TV Land’s own original sitcom Hot in Cleveland, TV Land is dedicated to showing the best in sitcoms throughout the decades. The Petries were a mainstay of the network for quite some time so we’re so glad to welcome them home."

"The show started with Carl’s writing and just got better as it went along because the formula was perfect," added Dick Van Dyke. "During those five years—the happiest ever—we were like otters at play. Carl chose to wrap it while we were on top. Who does that today? And how many 50-year-old shows still get this much attention?"
