TV Globo Unveils New Content Slate

SÃO PAULO: Octávio Florisbal, the general director of TV Globo, this week unveiled the Brazilian broadcaster’s programming slate for the year, which features a mix of returning fare and new series, including the telenovela Escrito nas Estrelas.

The broadcaster, which turns 45 this year, held its programming presentation in a São Paulo shopping center, leading with a presentation of the content that has defined its history: "We’re here to show you that we’ll continue this great work for our viewers," Florisbal said. The slate for 2010 includes the returning Casseta & Planeta Urgente!, A Grande Família and TV Xux; the new telenovelas Escrito nas Estrelas and new series like S.O.S. Emergência, A Vida Alheia’ and Separação?!. Coverage of the World Cup and local elections were also highlighted, as well as news fare such as Globo Mar and Nós, Brasileiros. Other upcoming productions include A Cura, As Cariocas and Justiça para Todos. This year, Globo will also air the Hollywood blockbusters Spider Man 3 and Die Hard 4.0. The presentation also offered a trailer of the U.S. version of The Clone, produced as a partnership between Globo TV International and Telemundo.

This year will also see TV Globo expanding its HD slate—including coverage of the World Cup—and possibly expanding into 3-D TV. Fernando Bittencourt, director of the Globo Engineering Unit, commented: "We’re working on a negotiation that would allow us to show 10 to 12 [World Cup] games in 3-D, in cinemas and large arenas."

Florisbal added: "For us, the most important thing is to get closer and closer to our viewers, taking them where they want to go and with the same quality as always."
